The iPad is 99% more open than any other computer

The iPad is 99% more open than any other computer, an article from a very observant young man.
This is the key to the iPad that nobody has figured out. The iPad does everything that a regular computer user does. Facebook. YouTube. Email. Web browsing. It does all this out of the box.
And it has all the apps.
The iPad is actually opening up technology to more people. None of this crap about it being closed is accurate. By giving people freedom to explore the app store without having to worry about anything (except their wallets), Apple has possibly made the best move they could make by locking down the iPad’s installation sources.

Precisely as per the Apple corporate vision statement a quarter century ago:

Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives. We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology — where each worker may bloom, secure from the pests purveying contradictory truths. Our Unification of Thoughts is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on earth. We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death, and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!

This has litterally become so Orwellian it defies parody. That paragraph encapsulates both "Freedom is Slavery" and "Ignorance is Strength" without any sense of irony. Big Brother Steve protects me from the bad people and the pornographers and any viewpoint he regards as contreversial. Any app that would allow programming is strictly forbidden, I can happly consume, and only consume, as a happy little cyberprole.

Protecting the masses from crime, porn and bad influences has always been the stated mission of tyranical regimes. Any number of dictators to this day will announce how you can walk anywhere
in their cites at midnight without fear and how that is "true freedom".

Of course this is described by the incredibly newspeak term "curated computing" which defends us from the "fragmentation" of open computing.

"Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither." -Benjamin Franklin

It was a parody. Apple was the running girl, not the face on the screen.

It was advertising hyperbole, now it is very ironic.
