Ereaders exploding now

About 12% of Americans now own a Kindle or other ereader device (discounting tablets). And the number has doubled in just the last half year! That's astounding, that's a historical shift right in front of our noses.

On the other hand, maybe it's just a fad. Like the Internet.

I couldn't live without my Kindle. That said, I also couldn't live without my ever-expanding book collection. It scares me that the physical entity may become a rarity.

Jessica,
I understand you well. I have great affinity for the books I haven't gotten rid of yet. (And if not for space reasons I'd hardly have gotten rid of any.)

On the other hand, I don't buy any more if I can avoid it. I like ereading much better. And I have a feeling that as years go buy, the paper vessels will seem less and less relevant.

I'm sure it'll span the scale. Some people will ditch their library without a second thought, and some people will die in 2060 with a house full of books mainly from before 2015.
