Most of our conflicts when selecting a reader is that a bigger screen is better, but it also means less portability and poorer holdability due to higher weight.
I wonder when we will get a cellphone-sized device which folds out to a iPad-sized (or larger) reader/device?
I think it will come, but it may take 10 or 15 years. It's a necessary future milestone, though.
It will also be the invention which will enable an important reader: the large one. For newspaper reading, text books, art books, comics, etc etc, the iPad is not really large enough. I think than once we have a 15- or 17-inch ereader (light weigh and foldable), we'll wonder how we ever got on without it.

That's very cool, but clearly a production tool.
What I want some day is something very light (under a pound) and preferably very portable. A reader you can hold in your hand as easy as a gossip magazine. (The glossy magazines are often not great cuz they won't fold flat.)
It's science fiction right now, I'm just thinking out loud, as well as trying to seed the idea. :-)
Other answers in the next 5-10 years might be glasses that would be so close to your eye that you could see more and cheaper, smarter displays built into tables and walls. If Corning glass has anything to say about this, the screen doesn't have to be portable, just ubiquitous. But I like your idea a lot too and hope it is more like 5 years for that.
